Introduction To Central Baptist Church

WHAT KIND OF CHURCH ARE WE?

Are you wondering about Central Baptist Church? As most know, simply having the name Baptist on a sign does not mean much. Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to Central Baptist Church. What kind of church are we?

We are an independent church. By that we mean that we are affiliated with no association, no convention or other supra-church organization. We are a completely self-governing body and look to no one but God and to his Word for our directions, or our rule of faith and practice.

We are a Sovereign Grace Baptist Church. By that we mean that we hold to the doctrine of the absolute sovereignty of God in all matters, including the salvation of sinners. We hold that all men are totally depraved; that God owes salvation to none and is obligated to none. We believe that God did, before the foundation of the world choose an innumerable multitude of specific, certain people to himself upon whom he would bestow his saving grace (II Thes. 2:13; Eph. 1:4). We preach that Jesus came into the world to save his people, his sheep, his elect from their sins and that it is for the sheep that he laid down his life (Jn. 10:15; Mat. 1:21; Jn. 17:2). We believe that God, in time, calls effectually and without fail all those given to Christ, that they do come to Christ and believe on him (Jn. 6:37, 65; I Cor. 1:23-24; Rom. 8:28-30). We hold that those who do come will never be cast out, plucked out, or go out, but will persevere through the power of God in them (Jn. 6:37; Phil. 2:13; Phil. 1:6).

We are a Baptist Church, in the strictest sense of the name. We believe only saved people are to be baptized and received into the membership of the church. We hold, as all true Baptists have always held, that Christ established his church during his personal ministry on earth and that these churches were promised (Mat. 16:18), and have had a continuous existence from the time of their origin to the present day. We further hold that these churches are local and visible in nature and that the alleged universal, invisible church advocated by many is foreign to the teachings of Scripture.

As true Baptists have always held, we believe the 66 books which compose the Bible were divinely inspired of God. We hold that holy men of God wrote as they were moved upon and guided inerrantly by the Holy Spirit. We further hold that the Scriptures are the only and all-sufficient rule of faith and practice for Christians and churches of the Lord Jesus Christ.

We believe the gospel of Christ. We firmly believe that Christ, who died and rose again, ascended into heaven where he is at the right hand of the Father, and, at the appointed time, he will come again and receive the saved to himself. We believe this coming again for his saints is Pre-millennial. We believe in a literal 1000 year reign of Christ on the earth, at the end of which the unbelieving dead will be raised and cast into the lake of fire, that the earth will then be renovated by fire, and there will be new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth perfect righteousness.

We believe the biblical pattern for worship. We hold that the worship services of the Lord’s true churches should follow the biblical pattern of singing, praying, giving, teaching and preaching, and that is the extent of our services.
